Description & Care Instructions:

The Oyster plant, also sometimes called Moses-in-the-cradle or the Tradescantia spathacea, is an exceptionally easy-to-grow plant that's popular indoors and out. As a houseplant, it's loved for its no-fuss nature. The oyster plant is one of the houseplants that basically just needs regular water to look fantastic. Because it's a relatively low plant, the oyster plant is perfect for desks, tabletops, and other surfaces; it's a fun addition to kitchens, bedrooms, and offices.

Light:

The Oyster Plant prefers shady conditions and will do well when placed in a room with a sunny window where it can get indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as this can burn the leaves.

Watering:

Your Oyster Plant will enjoy its soil drying out a little between waterings. It is a drought-resistant plant and can handle less water than other plants. Too much water can cause root rot and kill the plant.

Temp & Humidity:

Oyster Plants are tropical and do best in warmer temperatures and higher humidity levels. Keep temps between 55 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. If your humidity levels are lower you can place the plant pot on a tray of pebbles filled with water. You can also mist the plant once a day. If you have good light in your bathroom this would be a beautiful way to add some foliage to your bathroom.

Soil:

Oyster Plants will do just fine growing in well draining potting mix.

Feeding:

These plants do not require a lot of feeding. Lightly fertilize your plant in the Spring.

Toxicity to pets

This plant does release a sap when the leaves are broken that can be a skin irritant. It can also cause gastrointestinal issues in animals.
